Franklin Silencers

Reactive silencers are best suited for use with engines where the operating speeds are variable or applications where in normal operating conditions the engine speed is fixed as is the case with generator sets etc.

Reactive silencers are designed to cancel out the sound waves within the silencer. To gain the maximum noise reduction, the reflected sound pressure wave should be of the same amplitude and 180° out of phase with the transmitted sound pressure wave. to achieve this numerous resonators and expansion chambers of varying sizes are used as well as a number of perforated tubes are used to disperse the sound pulses.

Reactive silencers can withstand harsher operating conditions and are more effective for low to moderate frequencies, and will provide better low frequency attenuation than an equivalent size absorption silencer.
